Install Guide

Follow the steps below to install the Chrome extension or use the Web app — setup takes just a few minutes.

Chrome Extension Install

After installation, every new tab shows the MyTab bookmark dashboard.

  1. Download ZIP package

Download the ZIP package containing the CRX extension file.

  2. Unzip the package

Extract mytab.zip to a folder. You should see manifest.json and other files inside.

  3. Open Chrome Extensions page

Type chrome://extensions in the Chrome address bar and press Enter to open the extensions management page.

  4. Enable Developer Mode

Find the "Developer mode" toggle in the top-right corner and turn it on.

  5. Load unpacked extension

Click Load unpacked, then select the folder you extracted in step 2 (the one containing manifest.json).

  6. Import browser bookmarks

Click the MyTab icon in the toolbar and choose "Import from browser". Once imported, open a new tab to see all your bookmarks.

💡 Tip The extension needs bookmark permission to read and import your browser bookmarks. Data is stored locally only — nothing is uploaded to any server.
About the security notice Extensions installed outside the Chrome Web Store show a developer-mode badge. This is normal for self-hosted open-source extensions. MyTab does not collect or upload your data.

Web App Usage

No extension needed — use MyTab bookmark navigation directly in your browser.

  1. Open Web App

Click the button below to open MyTab in your browser — no installation required.

  2. Import bookmark data

Click "Settings" in the top-right, then choose "Upload JSON / HTML file" to import bookmarks. Supports Pintree JSON and browser-exported HTML bookmark files.

  3. Data storage note

Web app data is stored in browser localStorage. Clearing browser data will delete your bookmarks. Export JSON backups regularly from Settings.

💡 Tip Set the Web app page as your browser homepage or add it to the bookmarks bar for a new-tab-like experience.

FAQ

Common issues during installation and usage

Make sure the extension loaded successfully and is enabled. Check MyTab status at chrome://extensions. If you have multiple new-tab extensions, they may conflict — disable others and try again.

MyTab preserves your browser bookmark folder hierarchy. If some bookmarks are missing, check whether they live under "Bookmarks bar" or "Other bookmarks" — the extension imports all bookmark folders.

Currently the two versions store data independently. Use "Export JSON" and "Import JSON" to migrate manually. Sync may be added in a future release.

Yes. Any Chromium-based browser (Microsoft Edge, Brave, Arc, etc.) can install MyTab via "Load unpacked" the same way as Chrome.

That warning appears when installing CRX files outside the Chrome Web Store. Use the steps above: download the ZIP, unzip it, then click "Load unpacked" instead of dragging a CRX file.
